Previous issue date: 2006-11-10 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Based on the discussion about professional education, the laboratories,
railroads and the polytechnicians action, this work investigated the relations
between the Polytechnic School and the city of São Paulo, in the period between
1893 and 1933. A vast amount of documents were used in this study and
correlations were established between them, highlighting Revista Politécnica
(Polytechnic Journal) as one of the elements that contributed to the formation of
the professional class of the engineer.
The work discusses the Polytechnic School as a space of the rationality that
was established in São Paulo at the beginning of the Republic, connected with a
macro political project of São Paulo s Republican Party, in a correlation between
education and politics in the discussion about the implementation of the liberal
model in São Paulo and the legislative consequences that derived from it.
During this period, the Polytechnic School of São Paulo became one of the
historical subjects that constructed the conception of engineering in Brazil.
Engineering is understood here as the art of making and transforming nature in
favor of man s welfare / A partir da discussão sobre a formação profissional, os laboratórios, as
estradas de ferro e a atuação dos politécnicos, foram investigadas as relações
entre a Escola Politécnica e a cidade de São Paulo, no período de 1893 a 1933.
Serviu de base um vasto material documental estabelecendo correlações entre os
mesmos, destacando a Revista Politécnica como um dos elementos que
contribuíram para a formação da classe profissional do engenheiro.
Foi discutida a Escola Politécnica como espaço da racionalidade que se
estabelece em São Paulo nos primórdios da República, concatenada com um
macro projeto político do Partido Republicano Paulista, numa correlação entre
educação e política na discussão da implantação do modelo liberal em São Paulo
e nos desdobramentos legislativos daí oriundos.
No decorrer desse tempo, a Escola Politécnica de São Paulo afirmou-se
como um dos sujeitos históricos, construtores da concepção de engenharia no
Brasil. Engenharia aqui é entendida como a arte do fazer e transformar a natureza
a favor do bem-estar do homem
