Previous issue date: 2011-05-13 / The insertion of Mato Grosso do Sul in the national export scenario occurs largely through
commodity agribusiness, in this perspective we have the slaughterhouse sector as one of
the most representative groups working in the export trade. In the directions of our research we analyze the performance of three main slaughterhouse groups present in Mato Grosso do Sul state in the first decade of this century, specifically in the period of 2005/2010. The herd of cattle of the state and the tax politics incentivated the slaughterhouse groups JBS, Marfrig and Independencia to get interested in acting on the territory of Mato Grosso do Sul state, adopting aggressive strategies to acquire competitors, concentration and monopolization of the sector. The industrial units of these slaughterhouse groups are concentrated in regions that favor the logic of profits in scale, located in areas of high concentration of livestock, or nearest to the border with the states of South and Southeast regions mainly. In this context we analyze how the insertion of slaughterhouse groups in the global scenario reflects on the market and on local competitiveness, and how the state and municipalities become dependents of the oscillating model of primary exporter. We seek to clarify that in each historical stage of production, its realization requires a proper place, endowed with special features that best attends its production or fraction, allowing the place to be endowed with a particular meaning, because every time the productive use of this space segment will be changed. / A inserção do estado de Mato Grosso do Sul no cenário exportador nacional se dá amplamente por meio das commodities do agronegócio. Nesse panorama temos nos frigoríficos um dos mais representativos setores que atuam no comércio exportador. Nos encaminhamentos de nossa pesquisa analisamos a atuação de três principais grupos frigoríficos presentes em Mato Grosso do Sul na primeira década do século XXI, em específico no período 2005/ 2010. O rebanho bovino do estado e a política de incentivos fiscais fizeram com que os grupos frigoríficos JBS, Independência e Marfrig se interessassem por atuar no território sul-matogrossense, adotando estratégias agressivas de aquisição de concorrentes, concentração e
monopolização do setor. As unidades industriais dos referidos grupos frigoríficos se concentram em regiões que favorecem as lógicas de ganhos de escala, localizadas nas áreas de maior concentração de
cabeças de gado, ou próximas à fronteira com os estados das regiões Sul e Sudeste principalmente.
Nesse contexto, analisamos como a inserção desses grupos frigoríficos no cenário global tornou o estado e os municípios dependentes do oscilante modelo primário exportador. Buscamos esclarecer que cada lugar é dotado de especificidades que melhor atendem à produção ou fração da mesma, permitindo ao lugar possuir uma significação particular, pois a cada momento alterar-se-á o uso produtivo deste segmento do espaço.
