Högstadiepojkar läser - om det är roligt och lärorikt : En studie om högstadiepojkars läsande på fritiden och i skolan

The purpose of this study is to examine high school boys reading habits during their spare time and in their school environment and to let them evaluate its advantages and disadvantages. Quantitative and qualitative methods are used, and the study departs from Molloy's description of theory of literacies as well as the developmental psychologist Vygotsky's theories of languages and learning. The quantitative study was conducted in two high school classes and the qualitative was conducted in a group interview with a selected group of three students. The results show that, when reading in their spare time, boys enjoy texts from social media, non-fiction, comic books and trade journals. In school the boys prefer factual texts, fiction/novels, and paper articles. The conclusion from this study demonstrate that a lot of boys read the same text genres as in earlier levels of education, but that they are open for new text genres if the content is instructive and if the reading is more of an optional nature and not seen as mandatory.
