Den fysiska miljön : En kvalitativ studie om hur den fysiska miljöns utformning skapar förutsättningar och hinder i fritidshemmet

The physical environment includes everything that surrounds us. It affects our senses and emotions and is part of the large amount of impressions we absorb every day. The purpose of our study is to shed a light on how after-school center teachers experience the physical environment at the after-school center and the way the design of the physical environment can set conditions and obstacles for social interaction, well-being and learning. The study is performed through interviews with after-school center teachers from three different afterschool centers in Stockholm and Södertälje, as well as self-made observations to gain agreater insight. Through our study, we can confirm that the environment is important and sets the prerequisites for social interaction, well-being and learning. We also found that there are several factors that affect our physical environment, such as the size and placement of rooms, the size of the group of children, the shared spaces with the school and high noise levels. We will address these obstacles and conditions that exist for a functional environment.
