Lås in och kasta bort nyckeln : En kvalitativ genusanalys av män och kvinnors reaktioner på kvällspressens publiceringar om sexualbrott på Facebook

This study analyzes men and women's reactions to the evening press' publications on sexual crimes. The survey intends to answer three questions, how do women and men express themselves in the comment fields on the evening newspapers' publications on sexual crimes, what themes, positions and word choices occur and what similarities and differences are there between the sexes in the comment field. The empiric data has since been interpreted according to audience research and a gender perspective. The publications themselves have been analyzed according to the theory of encoding / decoding to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between the publications and the audience's reactions. To answer the questions, four publications have been selected with a total of 228 comments from men and women, which were then analyzed through a qualitative gender analysis where an ethnographic research strategy was applied. The empirical data in this study has during the course of the analysis revealed three macrotemes and eight microtemes. The results show that women to a greater extent comment based on their own experiences, while men tend to focus on details of the crime, the perpetrator or politics. When the perpetrator is a woman, the tone becomes humorous, especially from men, while the tonality of the comments becomes much harsher when the perpetrator is male. In general, men comment to a greater extent for educational purposes with an emphasis on facts, which falls in line with the male norm. Women tend to comment more often based on emotions, which in turn follows the female norm. The similarities that are established through the analysis are primarily the role as a “worried parent” and dissatisfaction with the penalty scale, which is a recurring theme from both men and women in the comment section.
