Bakgrund: Varje år insjuknar 215 000 barn och unga världen över i någon form av cancer. I Sverige drabbas årligen cirka 300 barn av cancer. Leukemi är en av de vanligaste cancerformerna bland barn. Sjukdomen innebär påfrestande behandlingar vilket skapar ett lidande för både barnet och föräldrarna. Syfte: Undersöka föräldrars upplevelser av att leva med barn som diagnostiserats med leukemi. Metod: En litteraturbaserad studie genomfördes. Tio kvalitativa vetenskapliga artiklar analyserades. Resultat: Utifrån analys identifierades tre teman: När sjukdom blir verklighet, en förändrad livssituation och vårdens betydande roll. Sex subteman identifierades: En våg av känslor, en vilja att skydda sitt barn, hela familjen påverkas, en ekonomisk påverkan, förändrade relationer och ökat behov av kunskap och information. Konklusion: När ett barn diagnostiserats med leukemi upplever föräldrar en våg av känslor vilket gör det svårt att hantera situationen de ställs inför. Deras framtid blir oviss och en önskan om att skydda sitt barn infinner sig. Genom att undersöka föräldrars upplevelser av att leva med barn med leukemi kan sjuksköterskor se de behov som behöver uppfyllas och bidra till att främja och bevara familjens hälsa och välbefinnande. / Background: Every year 215 000 children and young people worldwide contract some form of cancer. In Sweden, approximately 300 children are affected by cancer annually. Leukemia is one of the most common cancers among children. Developed and improved treatment methods have contributed to four out of five children being cured today. The disease involves stressful treatments, which creates suffering for both children and the parents. Aim: Investigating parent´s experience of living with children diagnosed with leukemia. Method: A literature-based study was carried out. Ten qualitative scientific articles were analyzed. Findings: Based om analysis, three themes were identified: When illness becomes reality, A changed life situation and the significant role of care. Six subthemes were identified: A wave of emotions, a desire to protect one´s child, the whole family is affected, an economic impact, changed relationships and increased need for knowledge and information. Conclusion: When a child is diagnosed with leukemia, parents experience a wave of emotions which makes it difficult to deal with the situation they are faced with. Their future becomes uncertain and a desire to protect their child arises. By examining the parent´s experience of living with a child with leukemia, nurses can see the needs that need to be met and contribute to promoting and preserving he family´s health and well-being.
