Panik, ta youtube! Studenters och förskollärares inställning till musik och den egna kompetensen i relation till förskollärarutbildningen på Malmö universitet

The aim of this study is to examine how or if newly graduated pre-school teachers and pre-school teacher students see themselves as competent in. As well as their attitude toward, working with music in a pre-school environment and how that relates to the music education received at Malmö University. With a starting point in both national and international studies which discuss these topics from different perspectives this study aims to start a discussion at Malmö University, which has a music profile as well as the common pre-school teacher program, and to broaden the variety of perspectives with a focus on the students’ experience. The study is conducted through an online form distributed to students during semester four and six, respectively, and to pre-school teachers who graduated in January 2018, who have all attended Malmö University. Some of the participants have attended the music profile instead of the common program. The material has been analyzed with previous studies in mind and through sociocultural and educational theories, perspectives and a few of their key notions. The material shows an overall insecurity to work with music in a pre-school setting and a need for more music education throughout the program. The participants from the music profile are, however, significantly less insecure and mention their own ideas for music activities on several occasions.
