Perversion, pornografi och provokation : - En litteraturvetenskaplig analys av Markis de Sades Filosofin i sängkammaren

In this essay I attempt to analyse Donatien Alphonse François de Sade’s book Philosophy in the boudoir (1795). I have used a Swedish translation of the book by Hans Johansson (2002) for my analysis. For my analysis I have used four main categories: the philosophy, the provocation, the perversion and the pornography in de Sade’s book. I also have a short didactic discussion at the end of the essay where I look at how de Sade’s literature could be used in the Swedish upper- secondary school.De Sade’s provocation seems mainly aimed at the church and religion, but depending on your personal views you may also be provoked by his stance on humanity, women and how he thinks that society should be run. The pornography in the book seems to be more like a text- or handbook in sex and sexual activities rather than designed to excite the reader. Even though the perversions displayed in the book may also have lost their edge with time some episodes take a darker turn and goes from sexual perversions to pure torture. Finally, de Sade’s philosophy is similar to other philosopher’s but he goes further and is more extreme in his total annihilation of God and moral. His philosophy is also quite impractical and seems to have provocation as its main objective.
