Compreende uma fase inicial de revisão de algumas leituras críticas do espaço no romance; uma segunda fase de aproximação da imagem do sertão que o narrador projeta no relato e que se constitui no ato da lembrança e no ato narrativo; e, uma terceira fase, de analise do sertão do romance, fundamentada na passagem do relato oral de Riobaldo para a escrita e concentrada na sua existência particular -inscrita de maneira exclusiva no âmbito da ficção e na sua materialidade, isto é: na palavra escrita. / The present work thinks about the sertão (backwoods) as a spatial category in Grande Sertão: Veredas. It comprehends an initial phase of revision of some critical readings of space in the novel; a second phase of approximation of the image of the sertão that the narrator projects in the story and which constituted itself in the act of the memory and in the narrative act; and, a third phase, of analysis of the sertão of the novel, based on the passage of the oral report of Riobaldo to the writing and concentrated on his particular existence - inscribed exclusively in the context of fiction and in its materiality, that is, in the written word.
