Onlyfans : -frigörelse eller förslavning?

With the reason of the Covid-pandemic, thousands of people lost their jobs and found themselves in a situation of desperation and anxiety. At the same time, the platform Onlyfans grew with the help of social media and recruited several new content creators. Onlyfans is a website where the creator uploads pictures and videos which the content users then pay in order to see. As of today, the platform consists of pornographic content from mainly young women as the content creators. Onlyfans is often described as a platform for female sexual liberation by enabling the content creators to take control over their own bodies. But at the same time as the website is being praised, there are people who see Onlyfans as something bad for the sexual liberation of women, mainly because of the act of selling pornographic pictures to men. Thus, creating a debate about the website. Is Onlyfans something liberating or confining for women? The debate is however very complex and as of today an important aspect of the discussion is left out, the words and experiences of the content creators. This essay will therefore represent the words of these women that has real experiences of the platform. By using semi structured interviews with four women, whom I have found on the internet I asked questions such as when did you start your profile? How has your life changed? Why did you start Onlyfans? From the interviews with Anna, Maja, Sara and Lisa it is shown how the content creators both are contradictory and concordant with each other. The aspects that often is mentioned is the life of the content creators, the followers, the economic part, the pandemic and the sexual liberation of women. Both the sexliberal and radicalfeminist theory is present throughout the whole essay and the different women represents different parts of the different theories. As of that, it is shown how complex the debate is and how different the perception of the platform is. This essay was never meant to solve the debate but it is representing the important voices of these women that uses Onlyfans. The economic part of Onlyfans is one aspect that all four women mentions under their interview. Apart from that, the women have different perceptions of the platform. Anna is critical and represent a more radical feminist perspective on the subject. Lisa, Maja and Sara show more of the sex liberal perspective when it comes to the female sexual liberation. The essay represents the opinions of these women and shows a more detailed discussion at several aspects of the debate. This essay will contribute to future research as it represents an important aspect that until now has been missing, the words of the content creators.
