Normföreningens syn på inkludering av paraidrottare / Able-bodied sport organisations view on inclusion of para-athletes

The purpose of this study was to highlight processes and experiences within the non-profit sport association about inclusion of para-athletes. The research questions were: How are the external processes about inclusion described within the non-profit sport association? How are the internal processes about inclusion described within the non-profit sport association? And what significance does the inclusion of parasport have for the non-profit sport association? The study was conducted by using a qualitative method with semistructured interviews with a total of seven respondents from six nonprofit sport associations in Sweden. The results showed that the non-profit sports associations are positive about the inclusion process. One of the reasons non-profit sport associations work with inclusion of para-athletes was to contribute to a better society where everyone has the right to practice sports. Important factors to be able to work with inclusion of people with disabilities were collaborations with local healthcare, special schools and habilitation clinics. Being able to seek economic support and also understanding of disabilities and patience. In conclusion, working with inclusion of para-athletes contributed to a lot of joy and greater understanding of other people's challenges, which in turn could contribute to a new way of performing sports.
