Studiens syfte var att undersöka poliser i yttre tjänst i Malmö stad och deras uppfattningar och erfarenheter vad gäller hur allmänheten ser på dem och bemöter dem samt vad poliserna tror att detta bemötande kunde bero på. Poängen med att undersöka bemötandet av poliser var att kunna bidra till en bättre förståelse och bättre relationer mellan poliser och invånare - polisers uppfattningar av bemötandet kan enligt tidigare forskning påverka hur poliser agerar gentemot allmänheten, där goda bemötanden från polisen kan stärka invånarnas uppfattning av polisens legitimitet. För att besvara våra frågeställningar har vi genomfört tolv kvalitativa telefonintervjuer med poliser tillhörande lokalpolisområde Norr och Söder i Malmö. Dessa intervjuer har transkriberats och därefter analyserats genom tematisk analys för att kunna identifiera ett mönster gällande hur poliser anser sig bemötas av invånare i Malmö. Resultatet av vår studie visade att poliserna generellt ansåg sig bemötas med respekt av invånarna och att invånarna har förtroende för polisen, samt att bemötandet blev bättre ju fler gånger poliserna haft att göra med en och samma lagöverträdare. Resultatet visade även att poliserna ansåg att uppfattningar och bemötande berodde mycket på individens egna erfarenheter av poliskontakter och påverkan från media eller anhöriga. Slutsatsen var att poliserna i stort sett ansåg sig bli väl bemötta, samtidigt som många utav poliserna trodde att uppfattningarna kunde bero på liknande faktorer. Även om denna studie kan ge en indikation på hur de lokala poliserna i Malmö stad bemöts är studiens resultat svåra att generalisera till hela Malmös poliskår och därmed efterfrågar vi ytterligare forskning som belyser bemötandet ur polisers perspektiv. / The purpose of this study was to evaluate patrolling police officers and their perceptions and experiences regarding how the public views and treats them as well as what the police officers believe causes the treatment. The point of examining how the police are being treated was to be able to contribute to a better understanding and better relations between the police and the citizens - police officers’ perceptions of how they are treated can affect how they act toward the public according to previous research, where respectful treatment by police officers can strengthen the citizens’ perceptions of police legitimacy. In order to answer our research questions we conducted twelve qualitative telephone interviews with police officers stationed at local police districts North and South in Malmö. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed through a thematic analysis in order to identify a pattern regarding how police officers perceive being treated by citizens in Malmö. The result showed that the police officers generally perceived to be treated with respect by the citizens and that the citizens have confidence in the police, also the treatment got better when the police officers interacted with the same offender multiple times. The result also showed that the police officers thought that perceptions and treatment to a large extent were caused by the individual’s own experiences with police contacts and influence from the media or people they know. The conclusion was that the police officers mainly thought that they were treated well, at the same time many of the police officers believed that the perceptions could be caused by similar factors. Even though this study can indicate how the local police officers in Malmö are being treated, the results are difficult to generalize to the police corps of Malmö as a whole, and for this reason we request further research to illuminate how police officers view treatment by the public.
