Previous issue date: 2012-10-22 / This study is concerned with recovering the history of teaching drawing and its trajectory that extends from the School of Fine Arts (Escola de Belas Artes - EBA) to the creation of the Center of Arts (Centro de Artes - CA). It traverses the changes in structure and activities of the professors who have taught drawing, their materials and methodologies. The historical trajectory of teaching drawing in the city of Pelotas is a subject for research that is still incipient regarding this theme. This is not different with respect to the university, specifically in the area of the arts, in which nomenclature is modified according to the necessity for change in academic structure: ILA Institute of Letters and Arts, IAD Institute of Arts and Design- and CA Center of Arts. Thus, this study seeks to write a fragment of the school‟s institutional history as a way of revealing its identity. A principal source for research is the Center of Arts‟ collection, its recorded and visual documentation. The emphasis on teaching drawing within the arts especially seeks to analyze professors and their methodologies with respect to their activities as artists-draughtsmen and in the classroom, in this way showing the evolution or involution of the structure of teaching and its methodologies at the Federal University of Pelotas in the area of the arts. The research methodology employed is a documental survey based on fragments dispersed among personal and public collections with sources including personal belongings (of the professors) and documents belonging to the Center of Arts. Theoretical references are based texts with themes relatedon cultural memory, identity, history, photography, art and art education, drawing and the teaching of drawing, emphasizing the importance of the records that retrace our history / Este estudo trata de retomar a história do ensino de desenho vislumbrando uma trajetória que vai da Escola de Belas Artes (EBA) até a criação do Centro de Artes. Permeia suas mudanças de estrutura e a atuação dos professores do ensino de desenho, seus materiais e metodologias. A trajetória da história e do ensino de desenho, na cidade de Pelotas, é uma questão de pesquisas ainda incipientes neste tema. Na Universidade, especificamente na área das Artes, cuja nomenclatura se modificou conforme a necessidade de mudança em sua estrutura acadêmica: ILA Instituto de Letras e Artes, IAD Instituto de Artes e Design- e CA Centro de Artes, esta realidade não é diferente. Busca-se então escrever um fragmento da história desta instituição mostrando sua identidade. A principal fonte da pesquisa é o acervo do CA, em sua documentação escrita e visual. O enfoque é o ensino de desenho dentro das artes, buscando especialmente analisar os professores e suas metodologias na sua atuação enquanto artistas-desenhistas e em sala de aula, mostrando assim as evoluções ou involuções da estrutura de ensino e suas metodologias dentro da Universidade Federal de Pelotas na área das artes. A metodologia utilizada é um levantamento documental com base em fragmentos distribuídos em acervos pessoais e públicos com fonte em materiais pessoais (dos professores) e documentos do CA. O referencial teórico tem como fundamento textos com temáticas ligadas a memória, identidade, história, fotografia, arte e ensino de arte, desenho e ensino de desenho, para ressaltar a importância dos registros que remontam a nossa história.
