Background: Sleeping-problems are common among small children and affect the lives of the whole family. Support for the parents is an important part of the Child-Health-Services (CHS). The advices should be evidence-based and equal. Objective: The purpose with this study was to explore how sleep-problems among children are treated by the CHS-nurses in the Uppsala county. Method: A qualitative study with semi-structured interviews were practiced. Nine CHS-nurses were interviewed. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analyzed with content analysis. Dorothea Orem's self-care model was chosen as the theoretical framework. Results: Three categories of how CHS-nurses’ treated sleep-problem were identified: CHS-nurses way of working is multifaceted, Flexibility and individual adaption is necessary to cover the family’s needs, Sleep-advice is challenging but stimulating. The interviewed CHS-nurses dealt with sleeping-problems among small children in similar ways and were supported by the advice and routines in Rikshandboken. Almost all the CHS-nurses found it stimulating to work with sleep-advice. What limited the CHS-nurses in their work was the lack of time, both their own and the parents. Conclusion: To have an evidence-based and equal child health care the CHS-nurses play an important role when supporting families with children with sleep-problems. The CHC-nurses experienced that sleeping-problems among small children have increased, but the lack of time for the parents as well as the nurses is limiting the nurses in their work with sleep. It’s important that the advices that comes from the CHC-nurses are family-adapted.
