This study evaluated the occurrence of enteric bacteria in oral cavity of periodontitis patients, gingivitis patients, periodontally healthy subjects and edentulous patients wearing complete denture undergoing dental treatment in Araçatuba School of Dentistry. Forty one edentulous wearing complete dentures, 89 gengivitis patients, 70 periodontitis patients and 50 periodontally realthy subjects were submitted to clinical examination, and periodontal and oral conditions were registred. Saliva, oral mucosa, subgingival and supra gingival biofilm samples were colleted and enteric bacteria were detected by culture and PCR. Targeted microorganisms were isolated from 75,61% of edentulous patients, 25,84% of gingivitis patients, 30% of periodontitis patients and from 18% of healthy individuos. By PCR, the detection frequencies were 87,8%, 38,2%, 64,29% and 18%, respectively. Significant resistance to antimicrobial agents was observed in most of isolates, and it was veriied a great heterogeneity of resistance markers to ampicillin and tetracycline.
