located in the state of Goiás with the predominance of intensive agriculture (commodities),
family agriculture and extensive livestock. The main objective is to analyze the influence and
the impacts of different agriculture activities developed regionally over the remaining native
vegetation in the Settlement Projects. Our hypothesis is that different forms of occupation and
economic exploitation in the Cerrado have different impacts on the legal reserve vegetation
found in the rural settlements. Thus we attempted to understand the environmental condition
of the rural settlements in its micro region, analyze the evolution of deforestation within the
settlements and their surroundings, trying to understand the relationship of the developed
agricultural activities with the rural settlements patterns. Our methodology adopted the use of
GIS techniques, satellite image classification (Landsat-TM 5 and RapidEye imageries),
besides the use of geo-referenced data and visiting fieldwork at the settlement samples. The
results indicated that, although the rural settlements have a higher rate of deforestation
(between 1990 – 2010 period), the percentage cleared inside them was less than their
surroundings. This result shows that regions with more intensive land use (with agriculture or
pastures) tend to suffer with a higher pressure of the deforestation, both regionally and within
the settlements. Therefore, the settlements tend to follow the regional dynamics of
deforestation or conservation actions of the area where they are installed, bring the same
agricultural activities of their surroundings. We conclude that the settlements from rural
reform agrarian in the Cerrado biome are not isolated lands from the local reality, while their
small farmers settled can not be characterized as the main actors of the land use changes in Goiás state. / Esta pesquisa tem como objeto de estudo a dinâmica de uso do solo em Projetos de
Assentamentos da reforma agrária, localizados em algumas regiões do Estado de Goiás com a
predominância da agricultura intensiva (em geral, commodities), agricultura familiar e
pecuária extensiva. Mais especificamente, busca-se analisar a influência e os impactos das
distintas atividades produtivas sobre a vegetação de Cerrado no interior dos Projetos de
Assentamentos. A hipótese é que as diferentes formas de ocupação e exploração econômica
no Cerrado têm impactos diferentes nos remanescentes de vegetação encontrados nos
assentamentos rurais. Dessa forma, buscou-se compreender a situação ambiental dos
assentamentos rurais em suas microrregiões, analisar a evolução temporal dos desmatamentos
no interior dos assentamentos e seus entornos, e compreender a relação das atividades
agropecuárias desenvolvidas regionalmente com aquelas desenvolvidas localmente nos
assentamentos rurais. Para tanto, adotou-se como metodologia o emprego de técnicas e
ferramentas de geoprocessamento, classificação de imagens de satélite (Landsat-TM 5 e
RapidEye), utilização de dados geográficos georreferenciados e visitas aos assentamentos
rurais. Dentre os principais resultados, para o período analisado neste estudo (1990 - 2010),
registrou-se nos assentamentos rurais uma taxa de desmatamento maior do que seu entorno
imediato (área externa limitada num raio de 20 a 30 km), embora o percentual desmatado
ainda seja consideravelmente menor do que aquele registrado neste entorno. Revelou-se
também que as regiões com uso mais intensivo do solo (seja com agricultura ou pecuária)
tendem a um maior percentual de desmatamento, tanto regionalmente como dentro dos
assentamentos. Com isso, pode-se afirmar que os assentamentos são “frutos do meio” onde
estão inseridos, e acompanham a dinâmica regional de desmatamento ou de conservação,
tendendo às mesmas atividades econômicas de seu entorno. Conclui-se, portanto, que os
assentamentos rurais da reforma agrária no bioma Cerrado não são terras isoladas da realidade
local, da mesma forma que seus pequenos agricultores assentados não podem ser
caracterizados como os atores principais das mudanças do uso do solo no estado de Goiás.
