Tillgänglighet via jobbmail utanför arbetstid och upplevd stress / Availability through work e-mail outside of working hours in relation to perceived stress

Availability through work e-mail outside of working hours in relation to perceived stress has got more attention in the media during the last few years. Previous studies about the topic has shown contradictable results. The purpose of this essay was to investigate if the perceived stress-level among employees could be explained by the availability through e-mail outside of working hours. The study was conducted among workers in the southern and middle part of Sweden with different occupations. There were 61 participants, 23 males and 38 females. To measure stress-level Perceived Stress Scale 10 (PSS-10) was used. The participants were also asked to answer demographic questions, working hours per week and availability outside of working hours. The results did not show any statistically significant relationship between the amount of availability through e-mail outside of working hours and perceived stress-level among the participants. However, we did find a significant negative trend between age and perceived stress, where the perceived stress level decreased with increased age.
