Through the narratives from young adults not in employment, education or training the study attempts to find connections to psychological factors for making positive changes. The main purpose is to answer how young adult perceive progress and what causes it. This is a qualitative interview study with deductive methodology. The result gives example of perceived social exclusion, somatic and psychiatric illness, the view on social establishments and the value of coaches and trainer. Connections to psychological factors is evident. Primary in the field of motivation and mainly Self-determination theory
