Previous issue date: 2001-09-19 / The purpose of this study is to investigate the socio-cultural universe of the
young working student. The aim is to understand the conditions under which he
lives, especially as far as work and school are concerned, focusing on the ways he
confronts contradictions which he is faced with every day. The deep changes
taking place in contemporary society, resulting from transformations caused by the
applications of technology in all aspects of human life, especially at work, and the
higher level of education required by new production processes are important
questions considered in this study, given the large percentage of Brazilian young
people who are struggling to combine daily work and study, almost always at
night.
I have chosen the young worker and evening student as the object of this
study and delve deeply into the relations between youth, school and work. The
study considers the way in which contemporary transformations affect him and
how the possible articulations between school and work can contribute to the
construction of his subjectivity by way of his life history. This study widens the
discussion of this subject and aims to contribute to educational practice which can
help the young working student in his day-to-day life. / O propósito deste estudo é investigar o universo sócio-cultural do jovem
aluno trabalhador, buscando compreender as condições em que vive, em especial
em torno do trabalho e da escola, enfocando as formas de enfrentamento das
contradições que lhe são colocadas diariamente. As profundas mudanças
gestadas na sociedade contemporânea decorrentes das transformações
desencadeadas pelas aplicações do conhecimento tecnológico em todos os
campos da vida humana, em especial no trabalho, e a maior escolarização
exigida pelos novos processos de produção são importantes questões
consideradas neste estudo, em vista da significativa parcela da juventude
brasileira que se esforça para compatibilizar o trabalho diário com a escola, quase
sempre, a noturna.
Ao eleger o jovem trabalhador, aluno do ensino noturno, como objeto de
estudo e aprofundar a compreensão das relações entre juventude, escola e
trabalho, apreendendo o modo como as transformações contemporâneas o
afetam e como as articulações possíveis entre a escola e o trabalho podem
contribuir na construção da sua subjetividade por intermédio de suas histórias de
vida, esse estudo amplia a discussão sobre o tema, buscando contribuir para uma
prática educativa que favoreça o aluno jovem trabalhador no seu cotidiano.
