Traumatiska upplevelser ute på fält : Kvalitativ intervjustudie om journalisters erfarenheter kring traumatiska upplevelser och stressfyllda situationer vid konfliktrapportering. / Traumatic experiences in the field : Qualitative interview study on journalists' experiences of trauma and stressful situations in conflict reporting

The work produced by war correspondents can be affected by traumatic and stressful situations, both short and long term (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984). Can readers trust journalists to write objectively and not to fill articles with emotions? As readers, it is relevant to know that information. The study will consist of seven qualitative interviews of war correspondents, because they experience traumatic and stressful situations on assigment to a greater extent than a "normal" journalist would do (Smith, Drevo & Newman, 2018). This allows the study to gain a more comprehensive understanding of how trauma and stress can affect psychological well-being and journalistic work. The study will not be able to generalize the findings as the sample used does not cover to conclude that all war correspondents are affected in the same way. The study will highlight how cultures of silence in newsrooms have affected psychological well-being and how traumaand stress can have negative effects if not managed properly. The main focus is to find out how a person's psychological state can affect the journalistic work that is supposed to be objective. There is a limited amount of previous research but the study consists largely of what has been found. The research is mostly based on the findings of the interviews. The expected result is that war correspondents are psychologically affected by reporting from war-affected areas and that their journalistic work may be affected by trauma, emotions, stress, ethical and moral dilemmas.
