<p>I gymnasieskolan florerar uppfattningar som till exempel att yrkeselever har låg studiemotivation. I vår studie har vi studerat yrkeselevers bakgrund och förutsättningar för att se om det finns belägg för dessa uppfattningar. Metoden vi har använt oss av för att samla in material är intervjuer med lärare och personliga brev från elever som besvarat frågor ställda av oss. Studien är gjord i tre olika skolor, en förorts-, en landsorts- och en storstadsskola. Studien mynnar ut i analyser av elevers och lärares utsagor, utifrån Bourdieus teorier om hur elevens kapital styr dess framtidsval. Vi har kunnat se att många yrkeselever har ett lågt kapital och hur detta begränsar deras valmöjligheter inför framtida liv, men undantag finns. Vi har även träffat på elever som har gjort ett medvetet studieval, utifrån intresse och drömmar.</p><p>It is a common opinion at the Swedish secondary school, that the students at the vocational training lack motivation in their education. In our survey we have studied the background and basic condition of several students at the vocational training to see if the opinion is right. The method we used to gather material is interviews with some teachers, and the students have been asked to answer a questionnaire with a personal letter. The study has been done in three different schools: one placed in a major city, one placed in the suburb and one placed in the provinces. The study is based on the analysis of the answers from teachers and students, and from Bourdieus theories about how the students capital steer how the students will make future choices. We have proven that many of the chosen students have a low capital and it has limited their lives, but exceptions exist. Of course, some of the interviewed students and teachers have stated that there are students that have made a conscious decision to study at this vocational training, based on their interests and personal dreams.</p>
