Previous issue date: 2010 / Resumo: Pela análise das formas de sociabilidade e da configuração social do espaço de vida Assentamento Pátria Livre em Vitória da Conquista (Bahia), compreendemos as motivações dos atores sociais que se integram na luta pela terra. Em entrevistas com assentados e lideranças, observação de campo, aliadas ao estudo da formação sócio-histórica regional, identificamos que as formas de sociabilidade e a configuração social em desenvolvimento no Assentamento Pátria Livre sãos sínteses resultantes da interação entre as motivações dos assentados, fundadas no habitus camponês e o modelo de organização social e política do Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (MST). Essas duas visões de mundo compõem uma convergência instável, complementar e contraditória. Os assentados, orientados pelo habitus, buscam a terra para reproduzir a condição de vida registrada em suas memórias, mas, em "Movimento", necessitam assimilar novas práticas sociais e políticas nem sempre convergentes com suas próprias motivações. No assentamento as contradições entre os desejos dos assentados e as concepções de vida e a dinâmica sócio-política do MST começam a se manifestar: os camponeses querem cessar de se movimentar e viver no sossego da terra da família, porém, o "Movimento" quer avançar para "reformas maiores", propondo a coletivização da terra. O confronto entre estas motivações resultou na configuração "semi-coletiva" que comporta formas de sociabilidade características das comunidades camponesas e outras oriundas da organização social de luta pela terra da qual os assentados fazem parte. Esta síntese é possível porque, em alguma medida, converge com as concepções do MST e a aspiração dos camponeses de viver na terra com suas famílias / Abstract: By analysis of the forms of sociability and social configuration of the living space Settlement Patria Livre in Vitoria da Conquista (Bahia), we understand the motivations of social actors come together in the struggle for land. In interviews with settlers and leaders, observation, allied to the study of socio-historical formation of the region, we identified that the forms of sociability and social development in setting settlement Patria Livre are the synthesis of the interaction between the motivations of the settlers, founded in peasant habitus and the model of social and political organization of the Movement of Landless Workers (MST). These two worldviews constitute an unstable convergence, omplementary and contradictory one. The settlers, led by the habitus, seek land to reproduce the condition of the life recorded in their memoirs, but in the "Movement", they need to assimilate new practices and social policies that do not always converge with their own motivations. Having conquered the land, the contradictions between the concepts of life and socio-political dynamics of MST begin to manifest, the peasants want to cease to move and live quiet on the family land, but the "Movement" wants to move to "major reforms", proposing the collectivization of land. The confrontation resulted in the setting of motivations "semi-collective", which includes forms of sociability characteristics of rural communities and others social organization arising from the land struggle of the settlers which they belong. This synthesis is possible because, in some measure, converges with the views of the MST and the aspiration of the peasants to live on land with their families / Doutorado / Sociologia Rural / Doutor em Ciências Sociais
