Background: Patient participation aims to make the patients feel safe and able to participate in their own care. Information and care relationships help to promote patient participation. When patients do not feel seen and do not have the opportunity for self- determination and participation from the nurses, the patients may lack trust and feel that their dignity and integrity are violated. Family members, relatives and close friends can also be a contributing factor to patientparticipation. Aim: The aim is to review the nurse's experiences of the patient's participation in nursing care. Method: A general literature review based on Friberg has been used, where seven qualitative and three quantitative articles have been analyzed.Results: According to nurses' experiences, Information, care relationships, responsibilities and nurses self-confidence had a significant part in the patientparticipation. Limitations have been further described which have made it difficult for nurses to practice patient participation. Conclusion: Nurses consider patientparticipation as an advantage for care. Information, care relationships, responsibilities and nurses’ self-confidence are important components for nurses to be able to apply patientparticipation.
