Barns utveckling av ordförrådet med hjälp av bilderböcker : En intervjustudie med förskollärare / Children ́s development of vocabulary with the help of picture books : An interview study with preschool teachers

The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of how preschool teachers can develop children's vocabulary using picture books. The method used is qualitative interviews conducted with four preschool teachers at three different public preschools in middle Sweden. The interview results are analyzed from a socio-cultural perspective. The terms used in the analysis are tools, mediation and the nearest development zone. All preschools that participate in the study work with picture books as a theme. The focus is on reading aloud and children's language development. They vary between reading picture books aloud and projecting the book's pages on the wall several times a week. They also design activities based on the book so that the children can experience the same word several times and in different contexts. This study contributes with knowledge about the picture book and the role of reading aloud in children's language development as well as different working methods that can be used to develop children's vocabulary.
