The aim of the study was to describe how nurse´s on a surgical unit experiences the ward round and what the ward round means for the nurses daily work. The study was performed with a qualitative questionnaire with open ended questions. Manifest content analysis has been used to evaluate the answers. Ten of 15 registered nurses, working day- and/or evening shifts, participated in the survey. The results reveal that the thoughts and feelings before the ward round are about preparation and stress. The thoughts after the ward round are about organising and planning the work for the day. The ward round is valuable for the daily work and nurse's look at their own part as very meaningful. A ward round with more time for explanations, discussions and clarifications are wanted. The results of the study should be interpreted with care since there were only few participants and focused on one specific ward round situation.
