Objetivo: Investigar fatores relacionados à demanda de um serviço de emergência de um hospital geral e seus desdobramentos.
Método: Estudo transversal, tendo como base os Boletins de Atendimento de Urgência referentes aos atendimentos clínicos realizados na Emergência do Hospital Governador Celso Ramos, em Florianópolis (SC), no período de 18 a 31 de março de 2005.
Resultados: Mais de 80% dos pacientes tinham até 50 anos de idade; a maioria dos pacientes (69,6%) procedeu de Florianópolis; a proporção média das consultas nos dias de semana extrapolou em dobro a de sábado e domingo; os grandes picos de procura por consultas ocorreram entre 8:00 e 20:00 horas (77,4%); oito diagnósticos ou sintomas registrados como tal ocorreram em mais de 50% das consultas; a consulta eletiva não urgente foi a mais freqüente (77,8%), a urgência não hospitalar contribuiu com 15,2%, a urgência hospitalar com 6,7% e as emergências com 0,3%; houve um ligeiro predomínio do sexo feminino; 41,6% dos pacientes receberam medicação no momento do atendimento; as urgências e emergências foram resolutivas total ou parcialmente para a quase totalidade dos pacientes, as consultas eletivas não urgentes não foram resolutivas para 64,6%; 91% dos pacientes receberam alta após a consulta; a especialidade para a qual mais internaram pacientes foi a neurologia.
Conclusão: a maioria dos pacientes atendidos não necessitava de atenção hospitalar; a maior freqüência das consultas ocorreu nos dias de semana e no período entre 8:00 e 20:00 horas; as consultas urgentes e emergentes foram resolutivas totais ou parcialmente para a quase totalidade dos pacientes e as consultas eletivas não foram resolutivas para 64,6%.
The author has carried out a research at an Emergency Department of a general hospital, in which it was analyzed features regarded to demand and its multifold factors, focusing on percent numbers of urgent and non urgent patients that visit the service and the resoluteness capacity of visits recorded at the service.
Objective: To investigate factors regarding to the demand of services of an Emergency Department of a general hospital and their multifold features.
Method: A cross-delimitative study based on data collection of the Urgent Attendance Charts regarding to clinical medical care that was carried out at the Emergency ward of Hospital Governador Celso Ramos, in Florianópolis (SC), from march 18th to the 31st, 2005.
Results: More than 80% of patients were aged less than 50 years old; the majority (69,6%) were from Florianópolis; the mean proportion of attended patients during week days exceeded twice the proportion of attended patients at weekends; the greatest hours peak for medical care occurred from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (77,4%); eight diagnoses or symptoms were recorded as such in more than 50% of attended patients; the non urgent elective medical care was the most frequent (77,8%), the non hospitalar urgency contributed with 15,2%, the hospitalar urgency with 6,7% and emergencies with 0,3%; there was a slight attendance prevalence of females; 41,6% of patients received medication during the attendance; urgencies and emergencies had total or partially resolution in almost all cases, the non urgent elective medical care had no resolution in 64,6%; 91% of patients were discharged from hospital after medical care; neurology was the specialty in which most of patients were admitted into hospital.
Conclusion: most of attended patients did not need medical care in a hospital level; the highest frequency of visits occurred on week days between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm; urgent medical care and emergencies were total and partially resolute for almost all the patients and for elective medical care there was no resoluteness for 64,6% of patients.
