In a classroom context, the readability of a text can be measured in many ways; one of them is to study the set of words and grammar in the text, and decide if they are a part of a student´s linguistic knowledge. This study concentrates on investigating the method for measuring readability when it comes to choosing a text for students learning advanced Spanish. This study also argues for the use of songs and lyrics as a part of the study material in the classroom. Therefore, the readability method will be tested on parts of lyrics from two songs in Spanish. The study will show some factors that can affect the readability of the texts. The study will, based on these factors, discuss semantics, head verbs and syntax.
