This study aims to find out the advantages and disadvantages of online learning with regards to mathematics. During the Covid-19 pandemic, education could not proceed as usual. Online learning became the solution which affected all subjects including mathematics. This study uses twelve different scientific articles that examine this topic. The advantages and disadvantages of online learning that each article presented were put into a chart. From there, the advantages and disadvantages were color coded according to similarity and put into categories. The categories were then described thoroughly. The results show various problems with online learning, such as: lack of personal contact, restricted pedagogy, worse mathematical abilities among students, technological difficulties, less motivation and a bigger need for support among students. The advantages of online learning were less but consisted of: flexibility, increased technical knowledge and increased motivation. The results show that the articles that were examined contradict each other to some extent. The results were then discussed with regards to strengths, weaknesses and contradictions in the research area. The consequences of the results for the teaching profession were also discussed as well as further research needs.
