Intensiv avkodningsträning med andraspråksinlärare : En interventionsstudie / Instruction in phonics for students with Swedish as a second language : An intervention study

Many students who study Swedish as a second language have a typical development curve, however some students struggle with learning how to decode letters and words. Learning to read requires decoding skills and these skills are usually learnt in primary school. Second language learners arriving in Sweden as teenagers or adults have a varying school background and some of them has not learned how to read in their first language. This study explores if a short period of intensive training in phonics could be helpful for second language learners to learn to decode in Swedish. The results shows that second language learners may improve their decoding skills if they get a short period of intensive training in phonics. The participants were also positive towards this form of training.
