Die Dissertation wendet sich bürgerschaftlich getragenen Dorfladeninitiativen in ländlich-peripheren Räumen Deutschlands zu. Anhand von vier Fallbeispielen und mithilfe qualitativer Methoden werden die Gründungsprozesse vom ersten Impuls zur Verantwortungsübernahme bis zur frühen Nachgründungsphase aus der Perspektive der am Aufbau beteiligten Akteure analysiert. Die Arbeit schließt an die Frage an, inwieweit bürgerschaftliche Selbstorganisation, die über ehrenamtliches Engagement hinausgeht und in wirtschaftliche Sphären vordringt, einen Beitrag zur Entwicklung bzw. Stabilisierung ländlich-peripherer Räume leisten kann. Die Analysen zeigen einerseits, dass die Initiativen ihr Wirken in multiplen örtlichen Problemkonstellationen begründeten. Anderseits wird dargestellt, welche Rolle politisch-institutionelle Aktivierungsimpulse im Kontext der Verantwortungsübernahme spielten. Darüber hinaus beleuchtet die Arbeit die Strategien und Anstrengungen, die die Initiatoren aufbrachten, um die Organisationen in stabile wirtschaftliche Verhältnisse zu führen und welche Barrieren sich dabei auftaten. Abschließend diskutiert die Arbeit den sozial-innovativen Gehalt des Ansatzes und problematisiert dessen Potenzial, neue Abhängigkeiten und prekäre Verhältnisse zu erzeugen. / The dissertation focuses on community-owned village shop initiatives in rural areas in Germany. Based on four case studies and using qualitative methods, the thesis analyses, from the perspective of the initiators, the founding processes from the first impulses to take responsibility to the early post-start phase. The dissertation refers to debates regarding the extent to which civic self-organization, which goes beyond volunteer engagement and enters into economic spheres, can contribute to the development or stabilization of rural areas. On the one hand, the investigation shows that the initiatives aimed to tackle a wide range of local challenges. And on the other hand, it illustrates the role of political-institutional activation impulses in the context of assuming responsibility. In addition, the thesis sheds light on the strategies and efforts that the initiators made to navigate the organisations into stable economic conditions and the barriers that emerged in these processes. Finally, the dissertation critically reflects the social-innovative character of community-owned village shops and argues that the approach has the potential to create new dependencies and precarious conditions.
