”Jag ser en långsam kvarn arbeta i ett oerhört långsamt tempo” : En komparativ studie om skolpersonalens syn på elevers psykiska hälsa över tid / ” I see a slow mill working at an extremely slow pace” : A comparative study of the school staff's view of the student's mental health over time

This study has the purpose to examine how the staff in public elementary schools works with mental illness among their pupils. The personal included in this study are restricted to history teachers, principals and school counselors. I contacted 69 schools in total. These schools are located in Ornskoldsvik, Malmo and Gothenburg. I used qualitative interviews with the school staff to yield the necessary information for a result. A total number of seven schools gave me any response and only nine staff members ended up being interviewed. The outcome of my study shows that the interviewed staff thinks that their co-operative work to prevent mental illness works well but that the school psychiologists believes that they have too much responsibility when it comes to the matter in question. The schools also seem to focus more on the students mental illness now than they did a few years back. The interviewed staff believes that the usage of cellphones and other devices that supports social media is the leading cause of mental illness among their pupils. One of the history teachers believed that the history subject could cause mental harm on the students and another teacher claimed that she had not worked long enough to determine if history as a subject could cause any harm on her pupils.
