"Varför gav ni mig ett könsneutralt namn era jäkla queertroll?" : En kvalitativ undersökning om hur lesbiska föräldrar förhåller sig till samtida genusnormer i uppfostran av sina barn

In this thesis, I explore how lesbian parents in Sweden relate to norms about gender expression and identity when parenting their children. Through semi-structured interviews with six lesbian parents on their gendered parenting practices I explore how norms regarding gender expression and gender identity are present in and affect the choices they make when raising their children. The reflexive, thematic analysis relies on feminist and queer theories such as Yvonne Hirdman’s gender system (genussystemet) and Judith Butler’s heterosexual matrix as well as performativity theory. The study shows that nearly all interviewees dissociate from normative femininity regardless of their children’s sex, although for various reasons. The study also shows that the interviewees renegotiate contemporary norms regarding gender expression and gender identity, by not letting their children be limited by the strict unwritten rules which these norms consist of.
