My study focuses on how two Swedish newspaper magazines choose to portray men and women in their biggest reportage. Since we live in a society that is built around old standards, it is interesting to see if the magazines try to look beyond the norms about what is male and what is female or if the papers choose to follow the standards to attract readers. The papers that are analyzed in the study are the women's magazine Amelia and the men's magazine Café. Although the newspapers themselves target two different sexes, I want to analyze how the newspapers choose to portray the people they portray in their newspaper. Just because a magazine is aimed at women does not mean that it has to be aimed at the typical women's area and vice versa for the magazine that is aimed at men As a future upper secondary school teacher in social studies, I have also chosen to analyze two study material books to see if the books we give our students penetrate the thoughts and values we want the Swedish school to show. Since the school is constantly working in a democratic direction, it is important that both the teaching and the content of the teaching material books express themselves democratically and have democratic and equal values. The result showed that we are still living in a world that is still determined by old standards. That men and masculinity belong to qualities like strong and proud. While being a woman and feminine are associated with qualities like being beautiful and always smiling. The textbooks also showed that more information is generally required about gender, gender equality and different types of sexuality. Today we live in a world where people do not feel like either a man or a woman, therefore it is also important that "the third sex" begins to take place in the school world
