Växjö Stad, Golvbrunnen Med Smak : Ett arbete om Växjös populärmusik och dess nätverksbildningar under 1980-/90- och tidiga 2020-talet / Växjö City, The Floordrain With Taste : An essay about Växjö's popular music and its network formations during the 1980-/90s and early 2020s.

This essay is about the musical life in the city of Växjö. Växjö is a rather small city that, during the last 50 years, has had a fantastic musical culture with bands such as AC/DC, Sex Pistols and Boney M playing there to name a few. With popular nightclubs and an exciting underground movement Växjö has served as one the most popular cities when it comes to music in the south of Sweden during the 1980s, 90s and early 2000s. This despite only having around 95000 citizens as of the year 2021. The essay uncovers the inner workings of the musical life and its network during the 1980s and 90s by the help of 13 people which have been interviewed. The people in question have either been active or prominent in connection to the musical life locally, mainly through the 1980s and 90s but also today, in the early 2020s. The interviews show that the musical life in Växjö has been complex. With a bunch of passionate individuals, nightclubs and underground stages people have changed the local culture and produced some successful bands such as The Ark or Melody Club. At the same time the city’s musical life is not as rich as it used to be before 2021. With the revolution of the internet we can see how it has become more expensive to arrange concerts and why it is more difficult than ever to develop a culturally significant musical life locally.
