Examensarbetets syfte är att ge ett arkitektoniskt förslag på hur en tillbyggnad till Nationalmuseum kan omformulera hur vi utifrån dagens kontext förhåller oss till Nationalmuseum som byggnad samt kringliggande kulturhistoriska byggnader. Tyngdpunkten har lagts på teoretiska undersökningar där bland annat frågor kring den historiska återupplevelsen som fenomen; kulturell och historisk kontext samt betraktande har hanterats. Även fältstudier har genomförts och presenterats där kontemporära tillbyggnader och ombyggnader som gjorts i byggnader från 1800-talets mitt till 1900-talets början undersökts ifråga om gestaltning och förhållning till orginalbyggnaden. Undersökningarna har lett fram till ett förhållningssätt om tydlighet och transparens kring vad som är nytt och vad som historiskt, vilket omsatts i det arkitektoniska förslaget. / The aim has been to give an architectual proposal on how an extension to the swedish National museum in Stockholm could redefine how we relate to the main building as well as surrounding historical buildings from a contemporary context. Theoretical investigations have been emphasized where questions about the historical revival as a phenomenon; cultural and historical context as well as the gaze has been dealt with. Further more have contemporary extensions and recontructions in buildings from the 19th centuary to the beging of the 20th been investigated and resulted in an approach of transperancy and readability of what is new and what is historical in the proposed extension and its relation to the main building.
