Att upptäcka och orosanmäla barn som far illa : Specialistsjuksköterskors erfarenheter inom barnhälsovården

Background: Six out of ten children in the world are regularly punished physically by their legal guardians. Childhood abuse and neglect is associated with risk of long-term problems with health and development. Within child health services (CHS), there is an under-reporting of lack of care. Child health services must contribute to securing children's health, safety, environment and development based on the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Aim: To investigate CHS-nurse's experiences of detecting and reporting concerns about suspected child abuse and neglect.  Method: A qualitative interview study with 11 CHS-nurses with experience of detecting and reporting suspected child abuse and neglect within child health services. An inductive content analysis was conducted. Result: Based on the analysis six categories emerged that formed a theme: The complexity of detecting and reporting concerns about child abuse and neglect. Indications of child abuse and neglect were both clear and diffuse. The close relationship of trust with the families was important. Competence and experience increased opportunities to detect and report concerns about children. Previous negative experiences with authorities were an obstacle. Cooperation with social services was considered to be desirable regardless of the areas socio-economic standard. Conclusion: Detecting and reporting concern of suspected child abuse and neglect is a complexity of different factors. Education, support and awareness of indications are essential. The cooperation with social services is divergent. Preventive actions, competence development and better cooperation with social services is needed. Keywords: Child abuse and neglect, Child health services, Detect, Experiences, Report concern.
