Vilka hinder gör att diabetes typ 2 patienter inte följer sin behandling och rekommendationer : En allmän litteraturstudie

ABSTRACT: Background: Diabetes type 2 is considered as a public health disease worldwide. It affects a large population of peoples’ lives and constitutes a huge cost for the societies. Healthcare systems work towards preventing and providing treatment for diabetes type 2. As Diabetes type 2 is a lifelong disease, diabetes patients are a regular clientele in all healthcare institutes. Aim: The aim of the study is to describe which barriers prevent diabetes type 2 patients from complying to treatment and following recommendations. Method: A literature study of qualitative research, which include eleven original scientific articles about patient experiences regarding compliance in diabetes type 2. Result: The result shows that diabetes type 2 patients have misconceptions regarding diabetes, treatment and recommendations, which affects their ability of compliance. To be able to follow treatment and recommendations the patient must find motivation and sustain their motivation in continuity. Patients’ experiences lack knowledge and have a substantial need for information which can influence disease awareness and compliance. It is shown that there exist other factors which affects patients’ compliance, but these are outside the patient’s control, however these factors play an important role in the discussion about type 2 diabetes patients’ compliance to treatment and recommendations. Conclusion: To increase compliance it is important to be able to describe which factors prevent diabetes patients from being compliant. The knowledge gained from this study can aid registered nurses in caring for patients with diabetes type 2.
