presents to society, and specifically soccer in Brazilian society, we have chosen
to study the collective construction of the type professional soccer player .
Through a systematization of spoken and observed elements in soccer it was
possible to reflect on the social configuration that permeates this construction
and to understand the specifying matrixes, the social networks that are formed,
the actors involved, the materialities that are present, the occurrence of
competitions for strength in the social network, their characterization, and the
interweavings of inter and intracategories in soccer. To make all this possible,
we observed in loco the trainings and matches of different categories of soccer
(3-5 year-olds, 6-8 year-olds, 9-11 year-olds, 12-16 year-olds, 17-20 year-olds,
professionals). Also, we held informal conversations with players of these
categories and the people they mentioned as part of their social networks
(family members, professionals associated to soccer, such as physicians,
nutritionists, physical therapists, journalists, teachers, coordinators, directors,
and club sponsors). We decided to approach the age group/category in a crosssectional
perspective, for which at least one soccer player of each category was
randomly chosen to permit the identification of the social network that
constitutes his universe as a soccer player. We observed their training and
participation in matches, their routine, and the people present in their life when
soccer is the issue. The question What is the meaning of being a professional
soccer player? was the starting point for informal conversations with the
components of the network, which demonstrated the meanings according to the
point of view of each person involved in the construction of the professional
soccer player type. The results showed that the trajectory of these young boys,
searching for their formation and consolidation of their sense of belonging to
this category, is defined by these meanings; as a result, they consolidate the
matrix in which the type is updated as a category. The trajectory of these
individuals is permeated by people and different situations, which produce their
own ideas and expectations, not always correlated to the understanding of the
reality the athletes live and want. To understand this trajectory, from the
athlete s childhood to retirement, it was necessary to grasp the particularities
and the psychosocial mediations of the construction of the professional soccer
player type / Diante da gama de possibilidades que o fenômeno esportivo em geral
apresenta para a sociedade, e especificamente o futebol na sociedade
brasileira, optamos por realizar um estudo sobre a construção coletiva do tipo
jogador de futebol profissional . A partir da sistematização de elementos
observados e conversados no contexto do futebol, foi possível refletir acerca da
configuração social que permeia essa construção e entender as matrizes
especificadoras, as relações sociais que são formadas, os atores envolvidos,
as materialidades presentes, a ocorrência de jogos de força nas relações
sociais, sua caracterização e entrelaçamentos inter e intracategorias do futebol.
Para que isso fosse possível, escolhemos a observação in loco das situações
de treinamento e jogo de diferentes categorias de jogadores de futebol (dente
de leite, infantil, mirim, juvenil, júnior e profissional). Também conduzimos
conversas informais com jogadores dessas categorias e com as pessoas
citadas por eles como integrantes de sua rede de relações sociais (familiares e
profissionais associados ao futebol, como médicos, nutricionistas,
fisioterapeutas, jornalistas, professores, coordenadores, dirigentes e
patrocinadores dos clubes). Decidimos utilizar um recorte transversal de faixa
etária/categoria, no qual foi escolhido aleatoriamente um jogador de futebol de
cada categoria e, a partir dele, buscamos identificar pessoas que constituem
seu cotidiano como jogador de futebol. Observamos seus treinamentos,
participação em jogos, rotina e as pessoas presentes em sua vida quando o
assunto é futebol. A partir da pergunta norteadora O que é ser um jogador de
futebol profissional? , conversas informais com os interlocutores presentes na
vida de cada atleta demonstraram os sentidos utilizados na perspectiva de
cada um dos envolvidos na construção do tipo jogador de futebol profissional.
Os resultados mostraram que a trajetória desses jovens em busca de sua
formação e da consolidação de sua pertença a essa categoria é definida por
esses sentidos, os quais, por conseguinte, consolidam a matriz na qual o
próprio tipo se atualiza como categoria. A trajetória desses indivíduos é
permeada de situações diferentes e de pessoas, relatoras de idéias e
expectativas próprias, que nem sempre se coadunam com o entendimento da
realidade vivida e desejada pelos próprios atletas. Entender essa trajetória,
desde o período da infância até a aposentadoria do esportista, requisitou fazer
escolhas que levassem a compreender as particularidades do processo. Esses
resultados corroboram a tese deste estudo, a qual afirma que a matriz que
constrói o jogador de futebol profissional está presente nas diferentes faixas
etárias, produzindo e reafirmando sentidos que o caracterizam como tipo
