"Vi saknar dig, det är viktigt!" : En undersökning av fenomenet frånvaro

The purpose of our study has been to investigate the phenomena that is “absence” from school. Using teachers and principals in Gotland as our starting point, we´ve used a qualitative research method to analyze their reasoning, in regards to absence. Together with a secondary analysis of already existing literature and studies. We´ve drawn our own conclusions while also considering all the themes which our method of analysis, Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, which is based in the philosophical phenomenological perspective, has exposed from the interviews. The interviews were conducted in a manor where we, the authors, interviewed one principal and one teacher in two schools each. The interviews where then transcribed and analyzed. From the analysis, three main themes were identified, screen time, bad mental health and also the responsibility of caretakers and adults. These themes were exposed by our respondents as the most prominent causes to absence among students. These conclusions were that absence is a multi-dimensional concept which could be caused by a number of different factors, and that these factors for the most part coheres. They often contribute to one and other, absence could for example be caused by a bad metal health, which subsequently could be caused by screen time, which could be caused by a lack in responsibility from the caretakers. One recurring, smaller theme which was brought up throughout our study was neuropsychiatric function-disorder and the effects which could follow.
