"Läraren verkar skön och jag är här för närvaron" : En kvantitativ enkätstudie som utforskar samband mellan olika elevgrupper och deras attityder till ämnet religionskunskap på gymnasieskolan

The aim of this study is to investigate students’ attitudes towards the subject religious education at upper secondary school. In Sweden, the subject of religious education is a compulsory subject at upper secondary school and something that has always been debated and questioned. In the formulation of the problem, it is highlighted that with the help of exploring which attitudes are outstanding, this can help teachers as future teachers in knowledge about the climate in different classrooms and student groups. In the study, a quantitative method was used, and a survey was carried out. A total of 397 students participated, distributed over 6 counties in southern Sweden. Most students were in year 3 and on a college preparatory program or on a vocational training program. The responses from the survey and the various variables were in turn connected with theoretical points such as the socialization theory and the secularization theory as well as previous research in the field. The results show that statistically, it can be assumed that the students have positive general attitudes towards the subject of religious knowledge. Furthermore, it can be assumed that the student groups “believing” and “college preparatory” have a more positive attitude towards the subject of religious knowledge in comparison with the student groups “non-believing” and “vocational training”. The result means that there are big differences in students’ attitudes, and this creates different climates in the classrooms that you as a teacher of the subject will have to deal with.
