The purpose of this study is to investigate how motivation is affected in modernlanguage learners, whether digital tools/books have any effect on the students'motivation when learning Spanish. The study was conducted using two quantitativemethods that were carried out in several schools in the Ludvika area during the spring term ´20 and ´21.The study analyses closed questionnaires with 150 students and structuredobservations undertaken in three different groups from 8th grade. The followingquestions are asked: (1) How do students perceive the influence of digital tools andlearning materials on their motivation to learn Spanish? (2) Are there differences intheir motivation when using digital teaching materials/tools compared to traditionalteaching with books? (3) What digital factors influence their motivation to workwith the Spanish language? The study shows that the most significant contributing factor to whether students aremotivated or not by their Spanish studies is how they perceive their connection withtheir teacher and the variety of teaching of the language. The motivation is notactually affected on whether they have access to digital tools/material or not.Furthermore, most learners feel unmotivated when they need to be self-sufficient orwhen they don't have the teacher’s assistance.
