This essay aims to investigate how Jönköping municipality adapts gender equality in physical planning and in what way the spatial planning could promote an equal development of society. The thesis is based on qualitative methods, where we performed four qualitative interviews and a document analysis of Jönköping’s digital overview plan (2016). In order to answer the questions, we present previous research in the field which was based on feminist theory and theory on social sustainability. This resulted, among other things, in the knowledge that Jönköping is actively working on gender equality and social sustainability in physical planning, but that other sustainability values are valued higher.
