During a rehabilitation process, athletes can face physical and psychological challenges that can have a negative impact on their well-being. Social support has been shown through previous studies to facilitate rehabilitation for athletes as it can reduce a psychological strain in perceived stress that the injury and the situation may cause. The purpose of the study was to examine, from a psychological perspective, team athletes' experiences of a rehabilitation process, with a focus on social support. Eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with team athletes who had all undergone a rehabilitation process for a severe knee injury. The results discovered that the interviewees used various forms of social support and facilitated the psychological strain that a rehabilitation process puts. The interviewees experienced that the social support from the teammates generated a sensation of belonging to the team and had a positive effect on the motivation to maintain the rehabilitation plan. The social support that an athlete experiences during a rehabilitation process can also generate a feeling of stress that is affected based on how the individual interprets the situation. The results of the study found that a rehabilitation can be affected by the one who gives the social support and its form and can have different effects on the team athletes' result of the rehabilitation. The conclusion based on the results of the study was that a team athlete has during a rehabilitation process access to different social support and effects of who provides the support can be based on the situation and team athletes' interpretation of the situation.
