The aim of this literature study is to critically examine if and how digital games can promote students' development in mathematics. Given that digitalization is increasing in society, this subject was considered interesting and relevant. To be able to give an accurate answer to the overall aim, two sub-question were formulated; what significance does the teacher have for how digital games can promote students’ development in mathematics, and how can digital games motivate students when teaching mathematics? Data have been collected from several databases, and the results of the journals have been summarized and analyzed. The result indicates that digital games can increase students’ development if the teachers are well prepared and the games are motivating and contains a feedback-system.
