Previous issue date: 2006-11-30 / This study had as its aim to understand the constitution of the subjective sense of
sexuality in elderly persons, supported by Gonzaléz Rey s subjective theory and
Vygotsky s historic-cultural psychology. Both approches the history of the
developing person. The qualitative method was utilized, whose principles are state as
follows: knowledge is a constructivist-interpretative production; production has an
interactive character; the singularity has a legitimate level of the knowledge
production. Three female and a male students from the Third Age Open University-
Goiás Catholic University (UCG) were extensively interviewed. The instruments
used were: dynamic conversation and sentence completion. As its main result it was
observed that the sexuality in persons with 60 years of age and over may be tangled
with the subjective sense generated by the person in the trajectory of his/her life and
can be experienced as: health, self-esteem, personal achievement, affectivity and
fellowship, naturalization of the decline of the sexual desire or, ever, the exclusion of
sexual activity. It was concluded therefore, that the process of sexuality
development in the elderly is singular. / Este estudo objetivou compreender a constituição do sentido subjetivo da
sexualidade na terceira idade, baseando-se na teoria da subjetividade de González
Rey e na psicologia histórico-cultural de Vygotsky que estuda a história do sujeito
em desenvolvimento. Utilizou-se o método qualitativo cujos princípios são: o
conhecimento é uma produção construtiva-interpretativa; a produção tem caráter
interativo; a singularidade tem um nível legítimo de produção do conhecimento. Os
sujeitos foram três alunas e um aluno da Universidade Aberta à Terceira Idade-
Universidade Católica de Goiás (UCG). Os instrumentos utilizados foram a dinâmica
de conversação e o completamento de frases. Como principal resultado, observou-se
que a sexualidade na terceira idade está implicada com os sentidos subjetivos
gerados pelo sujeito ao longo de sua vida, podendo ser experimentada como: saúde,
auto-estima, realização pessoal, afetividade e companheirismo, naturalização do
declínio do desejo sexual ou até mesmo exclusão da atividade sexual. Concluiu-se,
portanto, que o processo de desenvolvimento da sexualidade na terceira idade é
singular.
