In 2019, Sweden passed a new law to guarantee that children in need of special education are discovered early on and receive early interventions. The aim of this study is to deepen the knowledge of how teachers in preschool classes thinks about, and works with, step 2 and 3 in the guarantee for early interventions. These steps involve analyzing test results, deciding whether interventions are needed with the cooperation of a special needs teacher/special education teacher and, if interventions are necessary, deciding and planning adequate interventions with the cooperation of a special needs teacher/special education teacher. The chosen method for this study is qualitative semi-structured interviews with eight preschool class teachers. Results showed that the preschool class teachers’ subject knowledge and attitude towards interventions in preschool class are possible determining factors for how they analyze test results as well as how they decide and plan interventions. Furthermore, the cooperation between preschool class teachers and special needs teachers/special education teachers is characterized by ongoing and spontaneous meetings and is ultimately perceived as valuable. This value lies in removing various obstacles in teaching situations and obtaining pointers on materials and teaching methods.
