Målet med studien är att identifiera hur människor med utländsk bakgrund förstår syftet med studie och yrkesvägledning samt identifiera de skillnader mellan det som efterfrågas och det som ges ur individens perspektiv. Studiens metod är baserad på sex kvalitativa intervjuer som genererade data. Den insamlade empirin utforskades med inspiration av tematisk samt narrativ analysmetod. Det resultat som studien visar är att individerna efter sitt första samtal med vägledaren förstår delvis syftet med vägledning. Studien visar att majoriteten inte upplevde skillnader mellan det som efterfrågas och det som ges. Tidsbrist och avsaknad av aktivt lyssnande ur vägledarens sida är de negativa faktorer som påverkar samtalets utförande enligt respondenterna. Resultatet visar att det uppstod emotionell förståelse under respondenternas vägledningssamtal. Det framkommer att respondenternas språkkunskaper i det svenska språket inte agerade som en barriär i kommunikation med vägledarna. / The aim of the study is to identify how people with a foreign background understand the purpose of study and career guidance and to identify the differences between what is requested and what is given from the client's perspective. The study method is based on six qualitative interviews that generated data. The collected empirical data were analyzed with inspiration from a thematic and narrative analysis method. The result of the study shows that the individuals after their first meeting with the counselor partially understand the purpose of counseling. It shows that the majority did not experience differences between what is requested and what is given. Lack of time and lack of active listening are two negative factors that the counselor was part of. These two factors affect the conduct of the conversation according to the respondents. The result shows that emotional understanding arose during the respondents' career guidance. It appears that the respondents' language skills in the Swedish language did not act as a barrier in communication with the counselors.
