Bakgrund Sjuksköterskors utsatthet för hot och våld ökar. Idag finns det ingen vedertagen definition av vad hot och våld är utan det beror på individuella tolkningar. Hoten och våldet som många sjuksköterskor utsätts för, kan yttra sig både verbalt och fysiskt. För att kunna vårda en sjuk individ, krävs det att sjuksköterskor stävar efter en god kommunikation och se till hela individen, inte bara själva sjukdomen. Syfte Syftet med litteraturöversikten var att beskriva sjuksköterskors upplevelser och erfarenheter av att möta hotfulla och våldsamma patienter och närstående i den somatiska vården. Metod Baserat på 16 vetenskapliga artiklar av både kvalitativ och kvantitativ design, genomfördes en icke-systematisk litteraturöversikt. Artiklarna hämtades från databaserna PubMed samt CINAHL utifrån specifika sökord. De inkluderade artiklarna genomgick en kvalitetsgranskning utifrån ett bedömningsunderlag. Samtliga inkluderade artiklar genomgick även en etisk granskning för att säkerställa att de hade en hög etisk standard. Resultat Resultatet i litteraturöversikten beskriver sjuksköterskors utsatthet och de konsekvenser hot och våld har på omvårdnaden. Det aktuella läget beskrivs utifrån de fyra huvudkategorierna; utsattheten för hot och våld, situationer relaterat till hot och våld, konsekvenser av hot och våld samt kunskap och förhållningssätt vid hot och våld. Slutsats Trots att de inkluderade studierna utförts i flera olika länder, visar resultatet på klara likheter i utsattheten för hot och våld. Tydliga samband mellan brister i kommunikation samt långa väntetider och händelser med hot och våld sågs. Hot och våld visade sig inte bara ha en negativ påverkan på omvårdnaden av patienten som utövat våld utan även hos övriga patienter. Det visade även att sjuksköterskors empati och kommunikation till patienter försämrades till följd av hot och våld. / Background Nurses’ exposure to threats and violence is increasing. Today, there is no accepted definition of what threat and violence are, but it depends on individual interceptions. The threats and violence that nurses are exposed to, can take form in both verbal and physical ways. To be able to care for a sick individual, nurses must aim to create a good communication and see the whole individual, not just the disease itself. Aim The aim of this literature review was to describe nurses’ experiences of meeting threatening and violent patients and relatives in somatic care. Method Based on the 16 scientific articles of both qualitative and quantitative design, a non systematic literature review was conducted. The articles were retrieved from the databases PubMed and CINAHL based on specific keywords. The included articles underwent a quality review based on an assessment basis. All included articles were also ethically reviewed to ensure that they had a high ethical standard. Results The result of the literature review describes nurses’ exposure and the consequences that threats, and violence has on the nursing care. The current situation is described based on the four main categories; the exposure to threats and violence, situations related to threats and violence, consequences of threats and violence and knowledge and approach to threats and violence. Conclusions Even though the includes studies was conducted in multiple countries, the result shows distinct similarities in the exposure to threats and violence. There was a clear connection between miscommunication and long waiting times, and incidents of threats and violence. Threats and violence were not only showed to have a negative impact on the nursing care of the violent or threatful patient, but also of other patients. It was also showed that nurse’s empathy and communication towards patients deteriorated due to threats and violence.
