Previous issue date: 2017-08-16 / This doctoral thesis aimed to investigate in a multi-methodological way the sexuality of
lesbian women and to examine the interactions between the homophobic prejudice,
corporal satisfaction, sexual satisfaction and aging. To achieve this goal, a
methodological approach was presented in two theoretical and five empirical articles.
The first article presents an integrative review of the literature in the database of the
Virtual Health Library (PePSIC and SciELO) to present the national panorama about
the scientific productions on ageism against old age. It is concluded that the prejudice
against the elderly in Brazilian scientific production is little explored. The second
theoretical article presents a systematic review on sexuality in old age in the Virtual
Health Library database (PePSIC and SciELO). The results indicate a limited scenario
in the country about productions on gender, sexuality and aging. The third study seeks
to understand the experience of the sexuality of women in old age. It has an exploratory
character, in which three women aged at least 65 years were interviewed. The results
indicate that social norms that stigmatize old age and sexuality promote the lack of
information about life experiences. In the fourth study, we sought to adapt and validate
the Internalized Lesbian Homophobia Scale (EHIL) in Brazil as a measure that
evaluates internalized homophobia in lesbians. A total of 1,231 lesbian women aged 18-
67 years (M = 27.87, SD = 9.10) and all Brazilian states participated. The results of the
confirmatory analysis confirm the original structure of the EHIL, showing itself as a
valid measure in the Brazilian context. In the fifth study, we presented psychometric
evidence of adaptation, validation and creation of the Body Perception Scale and Sexual
Satisfaction for Lesbians (ESCSS-Lesbian). The instrument was more specific and
adequate for the measurement of the corporal and sexual satisfaction of lesbian women.
In the sixth study, the aim was to characterize the corporal and sexual satisfaction of
lesbian women, verifying their correlation with internalized homophobia, levels of
openness and sociodemographic characteristics. A total of 1,231 Brazilian lesbians
participated. The results were obtained from descriptive and inferential analyzes
(ANOVA). The results showed that possibly the higher the level of open the less
experience of internalized homophobia and the greater body and sexual satisfaction.
Finally, the last article of the thesis proposed to create a structured equation model
(SEM), in which it evaluated the mediation of corporal satisfaction between the
internalized homophobia variable and the sexual satisfaction variable of lesbian women.
And he concludes that internalized homophobia can be an explanatory factor of the
negative relation with the corporal and sexual satisfaction and of the possible
establishment of the psychic suffering and the non-acceptance of self. Together, the
results obtained in this thesis indicate that the internalized homophobic or anti-age
prejudice, manifested in interpersonal and intrapsychic relations, negatively affects the
body perception of lesbian women, decreasing probabilistically their corporal and
sexual satisfaction. However, it is necessary to confirm that the interactions between
homophobic, body and sexual satisfaction reflect the intensity and the way sexuality is
lived.

Aging, Structured Equation Model. / Esta tese de doutorado se propôs a investigar de forma multimetodológica a sexualidade
de mulheres lésbicas e a examinar as interações entre o preconceito homofóbico,
satisfação corporal, satisfação sexual e envelhecimento. Para alcançar este objetivo, foi
traçado um pecurso metodológico apresentado em dois artigos teóricos e cinco
empíricos. O primeiro artigo apresenta uma revisão integrativa da literatura na base de
dados da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (PePSIC e SciELO) para apresentar o panorama
nacional acerca das produções cientificas sobre o ageismo contra a velhice. Conclui-se
que o preconceito contra idosos na produção científica brasileira encontra-se pouco
explorado. O segundo artigo teórico apresenta uma revisão sistemática sobre a
sexualdiade na velhice na base de dados da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (PePSIC e
SciELO). Os resultados indicam um cenário restrito no país acerca de produções sobre
gênero, sexualidade e envelhecimento. O terceiro estudo busca compreender a vivência
da sexualidade de mulheres na velhice. Possui caráter exploratório, em que foram
entrevistadas três mulheres com idade mínima de 65 anos. Os resultados indicam que as
normas sociais que estigmatizam a velhice e a sexualidade promovem a ausência de
informação frente às próprias experiências da vida. No quarto estudo, buscou-se adaptar
e validar a Escala de Homofobia Internalizada para Lésbicas (EHIL) no Brasil como
medida que avalia a homofobia internalizada em lésbicas. Participaram 1.231 mulheres
lésbicas com idade entre 18 e 67 anos (M = 27,87; DP = 9,10) e de todos os estados
brasileiros. Os resultados da análise confirmatória ratificam a estrutura original da
EHIL, mostrando-se como medida válida em contexto brasileiro. No quinto estudo,
foram apresentadas evidências psicométricas de adaptação, validação e criação de
Escala de Percepção Corporal e Satisfação Sexual para Lésbicas (ESCSS-Lésbicas). O
instrumento mostrou-se mais específico e adequado para a mensuração da satisfação
corporal e sexual de mulheres lésbicas. No sexto estudo, buscou-se caracterizar a
satisfação corporal e sexual de mulheres lésbicas, verificando a sua correlação com a
homofobia internalizada, níveis de abertura e características sociodemográficas.
Participaram 1.231 mulheres lésbicas brasileiras. Os resultados foram obtidos a partir de
análises descritivas e inferenciais (ANOVA). Os resultados demosntraram que
possivelmente quanto maior o nível de abertura menos vivência da homofobia
internalizada e maior satisfação corporal e sexual. Por fim, o último artigo da tese
proprôs criar um structural equation model (SEM), em que avaliou a mediação da
satisfação corporal entre a variável homofobia internalizada e a variável satisfação
sexual de mulheres lésbicas. E conclui que a homofobia internalizada pode ser um fator
explicativo da relação negativa com a satisfação corporal e sexual e do possível
estabelecimento do sofrimento psíquico e a não aceitação de si. Em conjunto, os
resultados obtidos nesta tese indicam que o preconceito homofóbico internalizado ou
contra a idade, se manifesta nas relações interpessoais e intrapsíquicas, afeta
negativamente a percepção corporal de mulheres lésbicas diminuindo
probabilisticamente sua satisfação corporal e sexual. Contudo, é preciso ratificar que as
interações entre homofóbico, satisfação corporal e sexual espelham a intensidade e o
modo de como a sexualidade é vivida.
