Previous issue date: 2015-02-27 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This work starts from the questioning of changes perceived in filmic representations in film genre of the US Western, intending to offer an interpretation to them. Assuming that the Western deals with fundamental issues for the construction of the US nation's image - as the Manifest Destiny and the frontier thesis - it is proposed that these identified changes suggest reviewing and a desconstruction of the nation image elaborate by Americans themselves. However, in addition to the discussion about the deconstruction of this image, it is assumed the western as Eurocentric image, a myth that manifests in the United States the same myth of progress that legitimizes the Western modern project. Therefore, defends the thesis that the new cinematic representations that have gotten repercussion from the main prize of the US cinema over the years, indicate, ultimately, a critique of modernity itself, as discourse and historical process, allowing that glimpse a new time and a new project synthesized in idea of transmodernity. / Este trabalho parte da problematização das alterações percebidas nas representações fílmicas no gênero cinematográfico do western estadunidense, intentando oferecer uma interpretação às mesmas. Partindo do pressuposto de que o faroeste lida com temas basilares para a construção da imagem da nação dos Estados Unidos – como o Destino Manifesto e a tese da fronteira – propõe-se que essas mudanças identificadas apontam para uma revisão e desconstrução da imagem de nação elaborada pelos próprios estadunidenses. Contudo, para além da discussão acerca da desconstrução dessa imagem, assume-se o western como imagem eurocêntrica, um mito que manifesta nos Estados Unidos o mesmo mito do progresso que legitima o projeto moderno ocidental. Assim sendo, defende-se a tese de que as novas representações cinematográficas que têm obtido repercussão a partir da principal premiação do cinema estadunidense ao longo dos anos apontam, em última instância, para uma crítica à própria modernidade, como discurso e processo histórico, permitindo que se vislumbre um novo momento e um novo projeto sintetizado na ideia de transmodernidade.
